A new and unique ICE related tool is the RxTrakker™
RFID Wristband and PDA Based Read/Write Device from eSUNTech of Detroit, Michigan.
The
RxTrakker System consists of an encapsulated RFID Chip that can be embedded into a variety of objects, clothing and devices
worn upon a person or secured in place that can maintain important medical and contact information to assist EMS in the event
of an emergency that requires prompt and informed care.
The way it works is that a transponder chip is embedded
into a plastic module the size of a 5 cent coin which typically would be worn on a wristband, neck lanyard, helmet tag pouch,
shoe pouch, clothing insert or embedded into a wallet sized card. The chip is covered with a dome tag that identifies
the device for first responders or medical facility staff.
The PDA device which fits in a pocket or
turn out gear or holstered on a belt, has a read write head that can read the information stored in the chip and can
update that information numerous times as needed. This is accomplished using an encryption technology that keeps the
information private and unable to be read by other computer based systems.
The program that operates the system
is web based and easily modified for an end users requirements using software customized for the user. The PDA is the
Socket SoMo650 and is American made. Customizable Dome Tags are available (e.g. ICE). The system also reads
bar coded information tags and can be used as an inventory tool as well. It is GPS, Bluetooth, Email, Phone and is Microsoft
Mobile Equipped.
Recorded information can include, but not limited to: Individual
Identification Contact/Next of Kin Info Doctor Contact info Blood Type/Religion/DNR Status/Medical Conditions/Prescription
Info/Allergies Medical insurance Info
There are a variety of uses that pertain to emergency preparedness
in business, outdoor, recreation, government facilities, construction projects, long term care and hospital settings to name
a few.
One considerable difference that sets this concept apart from some other ideas is that you can still
control the information put on the RFID Transponder and it is stored with you. It does not rely on a remote database
that needs to be accessed.
Upcoming EMS protocols will dictate that anyone using the services of an ambulance will
have their critical data uploaded to a computer database in Pittsburgh for retrieval on future emergency medical service
intervention. This unit has interoperability with this developing system.
If
you are an EMS Provider, Hospital or Government Agency wanting to learn more about the application and how it can address
you particular needs, you can fill out the contact information below and it will be forwarded to a representative of eSUNTech for a timely response.
